March,11th Sunday…
Khanak Pradyun, Mahi, Chachi and Dadi had played poker…
Khanak was able to beat Mahi fair and square, she tried to hook Mahi and
Pradyun up… but there were no sparks L.
She could hear her husband on the phone until left for the site… she wondered what
the crisis was, he had long before transitioned out of construction design to
“general project management”
He had an aggressive style, wasextremely ambitious and spoke
his mind, Rahat seemed to love that….
He DIDN’T blink when he dealt with corporators or BMC
officials or netas…..his wealthy upbringing made it appear like it was all in a
day’s work…
Mahi was not particularly probing, but every Q of hers some
how rattled Khanak… she wondered if Shaan felt the same about Pradyun, eve time
she looked at Pradyun she found him watching her covertly… many high society
families, it was common for the husband or wife to start having an affair with
a younger cousin… or an older distant relative… sanctity was not not practiced
consistently…
Pradyun posted a picture of Khanak’s “stacks” of chips, she
won over Rs.18000 in two hours, she was tired… after the dancing… and the tease
of love making…. She wanted more of it… she would get it if she went to bed…
and her husband was in it… but he would ask her why she refused to sign the
mining papers…it would begin al over again…
Sonali wanted her to visit on “family nite” she actually
called her to ask, her voice very normal… “I will try” said Khanak first…
followed by “Kaki aur Kaka aayenge to chalega?”
“Kaki doesn’t speak any English, I don’t want her to come”
said Sonali bluntly…
Khanak would arrive in a Merc, her sparkling diamonds would
set off a landslide of chatter among Sonali’s girlfriends….Shaan had never been
to the college… she wondered what they would say if they saw HIM…
“How are you” asked Khanak to Sonali…
“College boring hai di, I want to start working, aapki tarah”
Sonali brought it on thick and steamy…
“To be able to work, you need to complete your education”
Khanak said bluntly..”Plus Buaji wants you to be married soon”
“I am not MAD” Sonali said furious…
“What do you want to do?”
“I want to live like you in a PG or with a room mate” Sonali
gushed somewhere hoping a handsome hunk would whisk her away…
“Mumbai bahut dangerous hai” Khanak worried…
“You are doing so well” she said with unconcealed envy..
“Ermm…I” Khanak began reminded of the man… but shut up…
Pradyun: Pay attention Khanak your turn..
Khanak:Yes calling station! (weak player)
He punched her playfully…..
Mahi looked at them with a curious look on her face, Chachi
and Dadi were long gone, Khanak’s back and shoulders BEGGED her to hit the
sack, it was past 2:30… Dadi had scolded her when she left for bed “He is home
now, you should get some “rest””
Mahi had squealed in laughter “I cant believe Dadi is
actually urging you to go get ---“
Pradyun squirmed uncomfortably, the thought of Khanak in bed
with some one pissed him off…
Khanak didn’t respond…
Dadi:Beta she is married, and you know us Punjabis are
shameless… so why not! (winking)
Khanak shook her head indulgently and thought “I am NOT
going” “May be Mahi should”
He peeked in at 2:45 ish and looked at Mahi and said “Ride
at 7?”
“Too early”
“8?” HE ASKED…
Khanak was livid, he gave her a CHOICE?
Mahi sulked like a baby… he didn’t look at his wife… just
noted that Pradyun and her were in the same couch…
Saw her chips stacked up high… Pradyun’s FB page had told
him that.. “all hers” he had said in his caption, very cryptic… Shaan didn’t have
to ask WHO the “her” was…
Their eyes met briefly as he left the room…
The game ended at 3 Mahi was asleep on the couch…
With zero chips… J
Small wins… khanak smiled to herself, counting the cash….

8:14 pm
Bhandup East,
Some Shiv Sena activists had attacked a pub in one of the
bylanes, they were breaking car windows and smashing windscreens..Khanak and
Pradyun were out since afternoon, it “used to be his fave pub” he told her… she
didn’t care for it, some patron tussled with a neta type who turned out to be a
SS activitist… there was mayhem… they ran…
She called home… she called Pradeep, he didn’t answer, the
car was damaged pretty bad…
She called Dadi, Dadi was at Mrs Soods, she didn’t answer,
she called her husband… from a coffee shop…
“Where the hell are you?”
“Bhandup East I think” she said hoarsely…
“WHERE is Pradeep?”
“Pata nahi who phone nahi utha rahe hain”
Shaan swore colorfully…
He called friends in the vicinity… couldn’t arrange a ride…
since people were driving away from it, Pradyun and her walked a couple
kilometers and found a cab… Pradeep later called to say he was safe, and
apologized for the car…
Dad was home, Madz was not and Dadi was home too…
Her husband was…they tried to be as normal as possible as
Khanak and Pradyun entered… Khanak looked frazzled… her eyes communicated a
relief upon seeing the familiar sights in the house, HL’s smile, the things…
first time she was ever so close to a riot of any sort…
Dad:Tum thakthi nahi beta? (cheerful)
Khanak:Raat ko (she hugged and stayed in the hug, rs filling
p her eyes)
Dad: Pradyun Kapoor are you out of your mind?
Pradyun grinned sheepishly…
Shaan looked at his cousin “You will stay as far away from
wife as possible” he said softly…but firmly…
Her heart skipped a few beats at the “my wife”
Dadi tried to douse the fire “Why Bhandup beta? Some Sainik
was killed in a crash they say a month ago”
Pradyun looked on clueless
Shaan:That’s right! He is not from here, doesn’t have a
clue, and is responsible for the safety and security of someone… (that belongs
to ME” his eyes pointed to her)
Dad: Prad beta… bad choice…
Pradyun:Its that pub Uncle…(he began)
Dadi:You look shaken up, go freshen yourself up, I will send
soup and crackers…
She looked at her husband he returned a “WHAT? Ready to go
out again with Pradyun?” look on his face…
Pradyun:What about the movie tonite? Kanak?
Dad:Dekho, yeh abhi thaka nahi (laughing)
Shaan: You are done escorting her!

yaar yeh sonali kya cheez hai even am 19 but i know the limit and how the behave for a 19 years old n this girl had no manners or restraint more than i feel sorry for her parents i dont see her doing something for herself other than getting married :X
sighhh sighhh! shaan is flawed but his attraction and intolerance anything to do with khanak is so admiring they are fighting but he never fails to care for her he looks impassive but he deeply loves her abit too much :P
awww khanak is shaken up n it seems his pissed off with prad! hopefully both become cordial soon :))

ayeeee shan protective behaviour is so enchanting never fails to amaze me n now he would never let prad go anywhere near his wife after this....ermmm sonu comes back in the picture dis girl needs to be shown the door and hopefully prad also is able to move on from khanak he seems so relectuant aboutt moving on :-(
ReplyDeletei want both of them together now this maha yudh had taken a turnaround all together both cannot avoid it instead they should speak to each other of what they believe even if they disagree to it completely :(
reality strikes for khanak it is how shaan feels when her past or even prad comes in between them just like mahi did but iam sure they wont learn from it instead push each other further and i've been hopeful both will able to come past their insecurites soon and move on to much more important aspects of them.......enjoyed the update aditi!
i prefer mahi over sonali anytime.

ReplyDeleteThese two stop arguing and give each other a warm hug and cuddle up after the fiasco…I love how event like this raffle their feathers and make them realise HOW much they matter to one another.
Khanak is doing match making…good one and both can fly off to wherever and leave the couple for once :|
I worry about Prad! Sometimes I feel he is hoping there will be a ‘chance’ between him and Khanak…before that Shantanu will axe him!
Erm….crisis out work? Another combat coming towards them? Not sure…I hope all the re-locating planning this come to fore again as BOTH are not going to relent from their stance!
Sonali has NO self respect what so ever…she should transit some from Khanak as she has abit too much! She is embarrassed about her OWN family that speaks volumes about her and it’s a fact if it wasn’t for Khanak or Aada this family would have been in pieces… …There are simple reasons like this why I don’t want Khanak to help her ‘family’ out! Its true in the way you portray it…I ve read/heard it everywhere but I still cannot digest the fact Khanak is so willing and has amazing tolerance level!
I loved how both the respective partners showed the love sick puppies their places!
