Mangal Kunj
She entered quietly, but everyone in the living room turned
around, Chachi, Ujjwala, the guests, Uncle Aunty and their daughter, Mrs Sood
was there as well..
Chachi:Khanakkkkkkkkkkkk aa ja puttar
There was instant Punjabi cacophony in the room, Dadi walked
over, slowly everyone did…
Khanak’s face lit up instantly… her eyes searched, Dadi
noticed that….
K:HOW are you Dadi?
D:I am fine…
K: I called Dad and he said you were sick…
Chachi:you sit down first (in Punjabi)
Khanak’s bags were pulled from her arms…
K:How is Dadi?
Chachi: Sugar is low, BP is high…. She doesn’t want to go in
for a full check up
Sunil:Pehle tu baith
K:Dadi is not doing well?
Dadi: I just need a poti I will be fine
Khanak’s heart pounded… she looked at her feet
Chachi: Bus, sharmana shuru
Mrs Sood:She is really shy…
Shaan walked in, from the inside hallway… dressed in tan
cargo shorts and navy tee
They found each other visualy through thehuman maze…
She looked past his head…
Chachi:Le, itna shor macha, aa gaya uska aashiq
Ujjwala: Bhabheeeeeeeeeee I am so thrilled to see you..
They both chatted like teenagers, giggly, secretive…
K:When did you get here Aunt.. (she stops)
Chachi:Toone mujhe AUNTY kaha? (shocked)
K:Ummm… I…
Shaan stood staring, enjoying the view of her with her foot
in her mouth…
K:I
Chachi:Shaan mujhe yeh Aunty keh rahi hai, 4 din baad aayi
to tujhe Mr Gujral kahegi
They all laughed out loud…
Shaan still stared, not helping or defending her, just
checking her out, her long braid… the red kurta, the red bindi… and the peach
churidar…
dADI: kuch kha le puttar
K:I mm.. I …
Shaan looked at her like “so you will starve to death now”
She responded with a “get lost”
Chachi: Call me Chachi first…
Khanak: I am sorry… Chachi (softly)
Chachi:I have to take you with me… u shud stay with me for a
while (hugging her)
Dadi:Haan uska miya tujhe kacha kha jaayega…
Shaan continued to look at his wife…
Mrs Sood: Kuch bolt u?
Shaan: Dadi: Until we
switch to HDMI it wont work…
Khanak’s jaw dropped… “Really?” “Is that all” ran thru her
mind…
D: Kis baat par? Oh… TV… tu chhod parey usko, le Khanak aa
gayi
Shaan:Dadi Rishi and Nachiket and a couple of other guys are
coming over for dinner…
Dadi began to worry…
Chachi: Aaj kyon bulaya… aaj to tu busy hai na?
Khanak looked at his eyes…
He was FURIOUS…
Shaan: We are heading to Maqsood’s new joint in Andheri…
Chachi:Who Ismail Uncle ka pota?
Shaan: Hmm
Khanak: I am going to change… Dadi…
She walked away.. picking up her bags…
She pretended to check her texts… the last one incidentally
was from him from almost a week ago… a jpeg poster image of a black stiletto,
with a smoldering cigar resting on it…..
Thots?” he asked
“Clintonesque” she said
He had laughed out loud, at work… and later that nite…..
She walked into her closet, placed her bags carelessly..
walked towards the huge bathroom, the Cigar poster now hung on a side wall…. She
traced the black heel with her fingertip……. And then the cigar… he had actually
bought some original Havana cigars before sailing…. Chesapeake…..
“You are sick” he muttered… as he smothered her
He had chuckled….
He stood in the bedroom door way watching her feel the cigar

His collegues and friends are coming there for dinner..He will be busy with them!!!
Both are still in fighting mode and furious against each other!!!
