HL wheeled in his cart laden with snacks, deep fried,
healthy, large small…. Sweet savory, baked, toasted….sh pretended to busy
herself stacking magazines in a bamboo basket…..
Sunil:Meri beti kaisi hai?
“Jee achhi” she responded looking at him partially, her face
was flushed, her emergency chignon unfurling to cascade the black silk on her
back….
“Shaan kidhar hai?” he asked seating himself, enjoying her
discomfiture…
“Oh… I mean on the phone” she waved carelessly as if she didn’t
care…
“Lada tumse aaj?” she enquired…
She blushed…. “Aapko” she asked…
“Main… she began to say (I fought with him over his goatee)
but stopped…
Sunil’s phone rang, he set the papers on the sprawling
coffee table and leaned back on the couch… talking in loud Punjabi…
HL started to serve…
“Mujhe nahi… Thanks, maine abhi Nivedita Maam ke saath bhi
khaaya”
Sunil put the phone on hold “Do you count?”
“Dad who”
“Hari beta do isko” he ordered
HL returned a toothy smile, just as her husband returned
from the balcony and nodded to his Dad…
“Was Nivedita here?” he asked his wife…
“Wedding announcement” she smiled ack… a dreamy look on her
face…
Sunil continued to talk… Shaan walked up to his wife….tucked
a lock of hair behind her ear, and flicked a sparkling hoop she wore…
“Mera clip deejiye” she demanded, tying her hair again
He completely ignored it… and sat down…
Sunil ended his call, and sorted through the papers as
Khanak attempted to leave the room
“Tum kahan ja rahi ho?”
“Jee, Bai Aada se milne”
“Are they still here?” he asked
“Jee Sir, Dadi unko lekar aayi, aaj baarish bahut thin a,
Pune highway mein bahut traffic”
Sunil nodded carelessly… “Lekar aao aap..” he said dismissively..
“Tum baitho beta” he urged…
Khanak sat down, “Dad” she began…
He paid her full attention…
“Who Shaan ne kaha” she said…
“Iski har baat maanti ho tum?” he asked mischievously…
“Nahi to” she said spontaneously… as she watched his leg
reach for hers… his knee pushing against hers…
“Tumhari har baat suntan hai?”
“Kabhi nahi” she said softly… in a trembling voice…
visualizing the punishment he would render later in bed…
Sunil smiled smugly at his daughter in law’s firm denial…
observing the obvious undercurrents between the couple…
“To phir to tumhe Ahmedabad chale jaana chahiye” he urged…
“Umm.. Who” Khanak searched for a suitable comeback… as
going away from Shaan was not part of her plan…
Shaan waited…
So did Sunil…
“Maybe I should” she said, smiling… happy at the support she
received from her FIL in provoking the husband…
“Thanks Dad” said Shaan mockingly
“Always here to help beta” he said…
The women walked in Dadi, Chachi, and Madz…. Amogh and
Khushboo were expected soon…
Madz looked at Shaan” Whats with the goatee, she isn’t even
at her Mom’s”
Dadi smacked Madz…
Shaan grinned.. “Seems to be the talk of the town”
“Did you approve?” Madz asked Khanak openly…
“Umm… No” Khanak said…
“Dadaji had moochen beta, Gujral men, love their hair
pursuits” Dadi supported her grandson subtly…
“Oh yes, Dad grew a goatee, that’s one of the reasons why
you don’t have a sister in law” Madz declared to Khanak “We never had that
third one” she looked at Sunil accusingly.
Khanak stared at her MIL’s brazen declaration… “I am with
you… it has to go” she smiled at Khanak… patting her shoulder to display
solidarity… Sunil rolled his eyes…
Khanak realized the only thing her MIL had ever supported
her on was her husband’s goatee… she bit her lower lip to hide a smile..
Watched his son imprison his wife as best as he could on the
couch… as he leaned over to share a picture or an image on his phone… she tried
to free her held hand… and gave up,
using her right hand later to scroll on his phone… he bent over her peering
face… nuzzling her ear..”14 of those”
“This one’s my fave” she said… scrolling back…
Sunil watched the intense chemistry between the two,covertly…
Gently pushed a sheaf of papers towards her… handing her a
gold pen…
“Sign wherever it says, investor 7” casually…
Shaan held her hand… she looked up from her phone…tense

ShaNak don't hear what each other says..Especially Khanak loves to defy Shaan and make in furious!!! ;) Sunil giving her ideas how to make Shaan hear her..Shaan though know how to get it done..;)
Madz too tease them..My god..She is so open..I guess all are so open in Shaan's family!!!

Eeeee!! I’m a HUGE fan of hand holding and gestures of tucking hair and what not but he does it amazingly everytime….sighhhhh!!

loved it to bits he keeps her so occuptied and frm rest of family it is truly like she lives anther life with him :(
