She folded her laundry thinking of the convo with her FIL…
the next morning…. He was understanding and kind, though he was confused about
her “stand”
He assured her that being wealthy wouldn’t come with any
strings attached… he even joked about not tricking her like in the movies….
“I am not entitled to it Dad” she told him quietly
They were having breakfast in Shaan’s bedroom… not quite out
in the balcony…
“Did he pressure you into signing the document?” he asked
“No but he dared me to decline” she said ashamed… her head
hung
“And you did” he said softly…
“What are you afraid of beta?” he had asked
“Shaan tumhe chhod dega?” he continued…
She paled…
“Dad..” she said… sadly…
“Aisa nahi hoga puttar, he said cajoled her in Punjabi…
She smiled “It sounds wonderful and soothing”
“Those words are meant only for you dear” he said…
She didn’t tell him about how some sections of her family
believe she married a Gujral for the money, how they believed there was no love
in the marriage…
Maybe…..
But there was lust…. Lots of it… unending… persistent
lust….like she was a kept woman… or like he was her secret lover… they reveled
in each other physically…it was more important than food for him… more
important than talking for her…
She was willing to postpone sleep for it, he was willing to
postpone work for it…
They weren’t kind or compassionate, or considerate like a
“loving’ married couple are… they lusted for each other or fought with each
other… there was a lot of insecurity… and anxiety….
But she didn’t say a word to Dad about it….
“You will be a Gujral even if you choose not to sign you
know” he joked…
“Haan shaayad” she smiled… confused
“I want to bind you to him… I fear for you…. I fear for him”
Dad said…
“You both are impulsive brash and impudent” he said…
“Not me” she said guilty…
“Oh yes! You ARE, tabhi tumse usko tug of war itna pasand
hai” he said, downing his third cup of coffee…
Madz, Chachi… Dadi were all unaware…
It was a bone of contention…. Giving up her principles would
be unthinkable…
Having her reject his Dad’s attempt at inclusiveness was
nothing short of a crime, according to him… he sulked….. snapped at his admin….
Barked at his driver… grumbled at Nachiket the next day…. And the day after…
shaved twice to make the appearance of goatee be more pronounced…. Smiled
nastily when Nachiket and Basil mocked the
sexual drought because of it….
“Goddamn principles” he blistered….
Some of his old arrogance and conceit reared its well
groomed head….he wondered if she did that to spite him…. She didn’t care about
his wealth… but rejecting Dad’s offer was like screaming about it from
rooftops…
He saw her chatting with Hari Lal in the morning in the
kitchen… just as she was about to turn he had walked away… acknowledging as he
punched the elevator button… maybe he had met his match…
Awww.... Shanak torturing each othr n to thmselevs...

Insecurity..It's there but not a big one..Their war is passionate just like how they are attracted to each other!!!
Poor Shaan..Sulking..He can in every right!!! And invisible from her for 1 week..:O And he kept the goatee..:) Looks like this problem going to be big between ShaNak!!! :(

awwww!! their attraction is the keeping factor of this relationship, me sure there is love but bth are too busy to understand it n being very selfish ppl i dont think they like to be like any other married couple lol! it be typical

yaar khanak needs to have a careless attidude ppl will still tok even if she wasnt married to shaan and she should nt care abt it either :|

ReplyDeleteIts abit amusing though, she rightly demands a baby BUT money for her is a destructive factor for her in this marriage
I think her insecurity regarding marriage will just go with time…I think he has reassured her many times already :P
The physical aspect of them takes away the other parts of their relationship…I don’t know about others but being in love is not explicitly or expressively shown its in doing little of things for each other and caring subtly and so far I see it in them from the smallest gestures but both fail to admit it or they just don’t want to
Both are adamant souls! They expect each other to bridge the ‘gap’ but one of them have to go the opposite side…no wonder sunil/dadi are always concerned about them…both are leading a journey but with rocky halts!
Ha! At-least Shaan has acknowledged he is her match…that’s a start to somewhere :D

that was an amazing update Aditee.......loved reading it.........always love the way you describe their relationship......each and every time you write it so beautifully!! the money issue is indeed a "bone of contention" between the couple and both of them have their reasons for it.............but they share a very passionate relationship (peace or war) and they need each other for their survival.......update soon!!
