Sanjay left her cube with a look of obvious displeasure rit
all over it… Khanak hung up her phone, and uickly grabbed her purse… Sood Dadi
had had a heart attack and was at Leelavati… it as going to take a good half
hour for her to get there, Gujral Dadi was there… Madhavi as at a art gallery
opening at Powai, and she couldn’t care enough to drive back 2 hours…. Khushboo
bhabhi was her Dad’s for a week…. Sunil and Dadi were in Taipei…
Khnak waved a cab down… and sat down… shutting her burning
eyes closed…. Aada wanted her to tak Friday off and go to Hinjewadi to see the
Foundation hospital people about Kaka…. She couldn’t… Sanjay did not approve
her vacation…
She had a two hour meeting on the phone… that’s the best she
could do… the backlash from the Sonali debacle as still being felt cross the
Mistry household…
Bai had told Aada Khanak should stop supporting Sonu’s
education… Aada was appalled his wife would even think lik that… Bai was firm…
luckily Bua hadn’t heard that yet… she would do a “taandav nritya” in the center
of Mistry’s house… and th house as locked so the face to face confrontation
would have to wait… it would simmer…. Until then…
Dadi gav everyon a bhashan about how Sonali should be
scolded sinc she is ONLY A child… anything more harsh would mean she might do “something
drastic”
Khanak chuckled dreisivly upon hearing that “Hitting on her
married cousin’s hubby is not drastic enouh Dadi?” sh thought….
She walked to the coronary ICU… Dadi waited outside, th Sood
daughter in law had gone to grab a coffee from Starbucks!!
Dadi hugged her… Khanak worried for Dadi… being not in such
peak health herself… she worried if Dadi would be affected psychologically by
all this…
“Tu royi puttar?” she asked…
“No?” Khanak looked confused…
Stared at her reflection quickly… she did look tired….. she
had tried to approach Shaan in the morning, as he shaved….
He had wordlessly rinsed his face off after the job… and
walked out as if she didn’t exist….
“Mujhe” she had said following him”
He turned around looked at her and had walked out answering
his phone….’ She sprinted after him…. He turned around on the swishing of her
kurta, watched her sprint and quietly let himself out….
It had hurt her deeply…. It was not the first time he was
doing that to her in the past 4 days….
“No Dadi I didn’t cry” she told firmly
“Lade tum dono?” Dadi asked…. Astute…
“Umm…mmm” she smiled, unconvinced…
Dadi hugged her tight and breathed audibly…. “Mrs Sood bus
achhi ho jaaye” she said…
Khanak realized how worried Dadi must be…
“How is she” Khanak heard a deep voice behind her…
She didn’t turn…
“SHAAN?” “So good to see you beta” Dadi hugged him…
“Where are the Soods?” he asked worried…
“Hari, Sunil’s peer… was talking with he Doc, his wife had
gone to grab a coffee”
Avaya was gone…..
Khanak didn’t turn around just pretended to look at her
phone…
“Khanak bhi aa gayi bhaagkar” Dadi said proudly
Her husband did not utter a word…
“Dadi main aapke liye kuch laaoon?” she asked…
“Shaan aa gaya who laayega” Dadi said…
Shaan stood by his wife… not touching or looking at her…. The
fine forearm hair tickled her forearm…. The cologne wafted… mixed with the
scent of construction dirt… the goatee was well shaped now… it hadn’t bruised
her in 4 days…. Her heart sank at that realization…
She stayed by Dadi as Hari and Shaan talked…. Hari’s wife
appeared and disappeared again… Hari’s son was in Germany… it would be a good
18 hours before he could get here…
An hour passed
“Tujhe jaana to nahi puttar?”
“I have to Dadi” Khanak acknowledged half heartedly…
Shaan didn’t look up from his phone…
“Pradip laaya tujhe?”
“Ummm… mm… he is in Powai with Mom” “Ma ke driver ki aaj
chhutthi hai”
Shaan looked up when she said the word Ma……
She turned red at the stare….like he had reached out and
felt her lips saying the word……
Are you going back to work? the woman asked... Khanak nodded sheepishly
Dadi waited for her husband to admonish her... none came...
Dadi coaxed Shaan to scold her... Shaan went on the phone
Shaan was unmoved…
“Beta why don’t you let her take yours VW”
“No Dadi… I am heading back to the site he said” firmly…“I
can take a cab Dadi” she told…….
both spoke at the exact
same time…. A normally suspecting Dadi couldn’t even tell these two were in
such serious trouble…. May be Mrs Sood’s illness was occupying her mind………..
Khanak picked up her Coach bag… looked at her hubby’s dirt
lined suede… the khakhi colored trousers.. and the red and olive checked cotton
full sleeve shirt….. with shoulder straps…… looked up at his eyes…. Found his
waiting……..

awww! hope sood dadi is better n nw dadi isnt aware lagta hai this serious trouble will either get worse or bth will have to solve it on their own
i hate khanaks dadi! why is she so worried abt her daughter even aada is her son n he has done so much but she still behaves like this aadat nahi change ho sakti inki lagta hai :X
mmmm i think shaan might drop her to work but wont talk to her again plus sanjay is a pain she cnt go ahm dis time either lol! so probably she have to sulk or try to make more of a effort :P

ReplyDeleteSood Dadi is unwell..All from Khanak's family is busy except Dadi..Good she want there and taking care of her given her condition..
Khanak too cab after a very long time..Aada is appalled by Bai's suggestion of stopping support to Sonali's education..Khanak's bua is such a selfish lady..In fact her whole family is selfish..:x Don't know how Khanak is tolerating everything..Ya..She is quite..It's her nature..But she can't keep on being like that..Especially when someone take that as an advantage..
Dadi like always bending towards her favorite grandchild..:x
Awww..Dadi immediately found Khanak is not well..Khanak approached Shaan many a times..But he refused to relent and forgive and rejected all her approach!!! Awww!!! He is still so angry..How she gonna pacify him keeping her self esteem and without compromising to sign the paper???
Whenever any issue pops up between them..Shaan always deals it with silent treatment..Never shout or scold at her stubborn nature but gives her a silent treatment..
Shaan too came to the hospital..Very nice..Khanak didn't turn..Awww..Loved how ShaNak stood close to each other..♥
So Shaan now having a full goatee..Aaye..Haaye..
She called Madhavi ma so casually..Cool!!! :) And the look by Shaan said it all..She ve to go to work again in the evening..:O Shaan didn't scold her like Dadi wanted..Awww!!!
Shaan refused to Khanak to take his VW and she said she'll take the cab..And he not giving showing his anger and allowing her to take it..God..He is damn furious!!! How she gonna make up with him???
Will Shaan drop Khanak in her office??? Any chance???

ReplyDeleteI hate this whole pampering routine regarding Sonu! What was Khanak then when she selflessly decided to look after her family at a young age?
BUT one thing is am unable to comprehend is Aada silence on this…I think there is a time where he should be able to defend Khanak
Looks like the couple don’t have a therapist in this fight…they will have to solve it in their OWN!
Uh! It seems like he is determined this time…its either my way or the high way!
Lets see…. I’m exciting about this one! I want to see how he ends up giving in…it seems like its one of those fights which she ends up admitting something unconsciously and he’ll be in awe/shock again :P
I loved what Hindi does to him…its like his endearing moment!
And obviously ‘their’ checkouts are like a routine :)
